Deeside Dragons Acknowledge Administrative Error Regarding Player Eligibility

The Deeside Dragons wish to address a matter concerning player eligibility in the second leg of our playoff quarter-final match against the Hull Jets.
On Tuesday, 1 April, we were contacted by England Ice Hockey regarding the eligibility of a player selected for that fixture. Following a thorough internal review, we regretfully acknowledge that an administrative oversight occurred in relation to this selection.
Upon identifying the error, we immediately notified England Ice Hockey and have taken full responsibility. The Deeside Dragons remain firmly committed to upholding the integrity of the sport and complying fully with all eligibility rules and regulations.
We would like to clarify that the player in question, while named to the lineup, did not take to the ice and had no impact on the outcome of the game.
We recognise the importance of strict compliance in competitive play and fully understand the potential implications of such errors. Measures are already being implemented to strengthen our internal processes and ensure this does not happen again.
In line with Rule 35 of the Rules and Regulations, and in the absence of an objection from the Hull Jets, it has been mutually agreed that the Deeside Dragons will continue in the competition and can prepare for their next playoff match.
England Ice Hockey issued the following statement:
“This kind of transparency and accountability reflects the values we want to see across the league. In circumstances like these, common sense must prevail. The efforts of the players should not be overshadowed by an administrative error, and we must ensure that our actions remain fair and proportionate. This is about supporting one another as clubs, learning from honest mistakes, and continuing to raise standards together while upholding the integrity of the game.”
The Hull Jets also shared their perspective:
“Following the conclusion of the review, we believe the error is a genuine mistake. While the player in question was listed on the team sheet, they did not have any material impact on the outcome of the game. Both sides played hard, and the playoff series was fiercely contested and played in the right spirit. Deeside earned their spot in the semi-finals on the ice, as such we do not object to the decision by England Ice Hockey. Good luck to all teams competing in the final four.”
We sincerely apologise for any confusion or concern caused and are grateful for the continued support of our fans, partners, and the wider ice hockey community. We will await confirmation from England Ice Hockey of any potential consequences relating to team officials.
