The Deeside Dragons are delighted to confirm the signing of forward Matt Barlow from near-rivals Widnes Wild — a strong addition that further strengthens the roster ahead of the new NIHL season.
At 26, Barlow brings valuable experience and a reputation for smart, consistent offensive play. A product of the Manchester youth system, he’s earned respect across the league for his speed, vision, and work rate — and will now bring that skill set to the Den.
Last season, Barlow recorded 47 points (30 goals, 17 assists) in 30 games across Leeds Knights 2 and Widnes Wild — averaging an incredible 1.6 goals per game. Whether leading the line or supporting the play, Matty proved himself a consistent and influential presence on the ice throughout the campaign.
A Familiar Face — Now Wearing White & Red
Matty will be no stranger to Dragons fans. Having gone head-to-head with Deeside in some heated clashes over the years while wearing the black and yellow of Widnes, he’s a name and face our supporters know well — and maybe even dreaded seeing line up against us.
Now, it’s our turn to cheer him on.
From his relentless work ethic to his knack for scoring big goals, Barlow is exactly the kind of player who gets fans out of their seats — and we know the Den is going to love watching him suit up in white and red. He brings fire, energy, and that bit of swagger every great forward needs. Expect highlight-reel moments, clutch performances, and a player who feeds off the crowd as much as the puck.
