#9 WILL HARPER COMMITS TO TWO MORE YEARS WITH THE DRAGONS

The Steel 4 Structures Deeside Dragons are thrilled to announce that fan favourite Will Harper has signed a new two-year deal to remain with the club.

Harper, who joined the Dragons last season from local rivals Widnes Wild, quickly became a cult hero among the Deeside faithful. His tireless energy, on-ice mischief, and fearless play made him a standout presence during the 2024–25 campaign.

In his debut season with the Dragons, the dynamic forward notched 26 points (8 goals, 18 assists) in 32 NIHL1 games, alongside 92 penalty minutes, and added another assist across four playoff games. But beyond the numbers, it was his passion, physicality, and knack for turning up in key moments that made him a vital part of the team.

Speaking about his new deal, Harper said:

“I’m really excited to be back for two years playing in front of the best fan base in the league. We’ve got a great team for this season and I think we’re in with a real shot at silverware, so I can’t wait to get going again and show what I can do.”

Head Coach Mike Clancy was equally enthusiastic about the signing:

“I’m absolutely delighted to confirm that Will Harper has signed on for a further two seasons with the Dragons. Will joined us last summer from Widnes, and over 30 games he showed exactly why we wanted him — contributing 26 points, strong skating, effective two-way play, and a real will to stand up for the team.”

“By extending his stay, we’re investing in the backbone of this squad. His development over the past year has been impressive, returning his biggest points tally to date as a senior player. He’s becoming a more composed defender, contributing offensively, and consistently delivering the sort of effort that defines Dragons hockey.”

“This two‑year deal aligns with our long‑term strategy of building a core of home‑grown British talent. Following the example of other key signings like Jake Witkowski, Will is another player who believes in our vision and is prepared to commit to the longer-term plan.”

“From a coaching standpoint, when it comes to building a competitive side we know continuity is critical. Individuals don’t win titles — teams pulling in the same direction, aligned with the same goals, do.”

With Harper locked in for two more years, the Dragons continue to build a team ready to challenge at the top end of NIHL1. Expect more fire, fight, and flair from #9 Will Harper — the fans wouldn’t want it any other way.
