MJ Signs 2 year contract
The Steel 4 Structures Deeside Dragons are proud to announce the return of one of our own — MJ Clancy has signed a new two-year deal that will keep him at the heart of the club through the 2026 season.
Born in Chester and raised in the Dragons system, Clancy is more than just a centre on the team sheet — he’s part of the club’s DNA. Now 25, MJ brings a depth of understanding and a passion for the badge that can’t be taught.
In the 2024/25 season, Clancy iced in 31 league games, registering 7 goals and 8 assists for 15 points, while also contributing in all four playoff games with an additional assist. But beyond the numbers, it’s MJ’s steady presence and deep-rooted commitment to the club that make him a true asset on and off the ice.

MJ Clancy said
“It’s a bittersweet one for me this year — some of my closest teammates and friends are moving on to new opportunities or hanging them up. They’ll be sorely missed both on and off the ice. That said, I’m fully committed to the rebuild ahead and will be doing everything I can to help this team grow, compete, and succeed in the upcoming season. Can’t wait to be back in the Den with the boys — and with the fans behind us! #33”
Head Coach Mike Clancy shared his thoughts on the deal:
“I’m absolutely delighted to confirm that M.J. has committed to the Dragons for the next two seasons. M.J. is a home-grown talent—he knows the heartbeat of this club and embodies our values on and off the ice. Over the past season he’s shown tremendous character, become a huge part of our room, and consistent performance through the middle.
His two-year extension is more than just a roster move—it’s a statement. It reinforces our commitment to building a competitive, cohesive team around players who live and breathe Dragons hockey. I’m excited MJ has committed to the group as we push towards our plan over the next two seasons.”
Known affectionately among fans (and maybe a few tired teammates) for clocking up more ice time than the Zamboni, MJ’s love for the game — and the Dragons — is never in doubt. Whether it’s the first shift or the last, you’ll usually find him out there, giving everything he’s got.
MJ’s re-signing is another key building block in shaping a team with identity, loyalty, and belief. He’s the kind of player who might fly under the radar on the stat sheet, but whose presence is felt in every shift, every huddle, and every moment that matters.
Welcome back, MJ — the Dragons wouldn’t be the same without you (or your 28-minute average shift length).
