ONCE A DRAGON, ALWAYS A DRAGON

The Aspray Chester Deeside Dragons would like to thank three players who will not be returning this season in Si Furnival, Mike Rogers and Lewis Otley.

Si Furnival has been a Dragon for over a decade, playing his first season in Deeside as part of the Flintshire Freeze in 2010. He will finish his career as a Dragon with 291 points in 273 games, as well as five points in five playoff games. One of the all time great Dragons.

“Simon has been a massive part of the team going all the way back to when we were the Freeze, he has contributed to the team massively over that time. He is not only a great player but a great team member being a massive part of our core group and will be missed both on the ice and in the changing room. We wish him and his family the best and hopefully see him in a Dragons jersey again soon.” Assistant Coach Matt Compton

Mike Rogers has three seasons of professional hockey under his belt, and two of them are with the Dragons. He was a vital part of the team this season, and in 2019-20 was responsible for almost every win the team had, with 4 shutouts in 28 games. He will be missed!

“Mike came to us after only taking up hockey a year or so earlier. He has improved massively and over a short time. He gave us some great performances especially the year before covid. Last year he stepped in and did a great job for us. We wish him the best season.” Assistant Coach Matt Compton

Lewis Ottley was a newcomer to Deeside this season, but made an impact immediately, as the Dragons struggled with a tough schedule of back to back games and injuries to key defencemen early in the season. We are excited to see where Lewis ends up next season.

“Deeside Dragons regrettably inform the loyal fans that Lewis Ottley will not be returning to the roster for the 22/23 season. A change in EIHA ruling this season sees the team only able to ice 16 over 23 year olds and non-British trained players as we step into the 23/24 season.  This means we need to manage our game day roster closely to ensure we remain competitive but also hit the criteria laid out. The Aspray Chester Deeside Dragons would like to put on record their thanks to Lewis for his contribution to the team during in 22/23 season. A key player in our return to action that will be missed, we wish you well in the coming season Lew.” Mike Clancy
