MJ Clancy emerged last season as an extremely solid and energetic player, who can bolster any line. He played on both the power play and the penalty kill, and in 24 games last season he recored 14 points, adding 1 goal in 2 playoff games, a total he is looking to build on this season.
MJ is a product of the Deeside junior system and played U16, U18 and U20 Dragons before making his senior debut with the Dragons NIHL1 side at the age of just 16.
On re-signing with the club, MJ said “Hopefully we can build on where we left off and climb the table this year. I can’t wait to get back to the Den in front of the fans and build on last year’s successes!”
MJ was a key part of the team last year, spending time on all three lines, and, according to assistant coach Matt Compton, “He makes contributions at both ends of the ice, for us that can go unnoticed at times but is very important and typifies a player that goes about his role and contributes to the team’s strengths.” As MJ gears up for the season, fans and teammates alike will be eager to see him take another step forward as a senior member of the Dragons, to help the team succeed where they fell short last season, and hopefully win some silverware in April!
