The Aspray Chester Deeside Dragons are so excited to announce that Deeside trained forward Andy McKinney is making his return to the Den after several years away! McKinney has most recently played for the Telford Tigers in the National League and recorded 10 goals and 27 points in 37 games last season.

“I’m officially a Deeside Dragon! It’s been a while. I left Deeside back in 2007 at under 16s level and tried my luck over in Canada for a year or so. Upon my return I ended up playing in Telford at the EPL level and managed to keep at this level for quite some time, mixing in a few stints in the Elite League too. I knew at some stage I’d settle back in Chester and play hockey again at my local club. Things have changed recently with the family life and I cannot commit to playing at NIHL level with so many games, travel etc. I’m excited to get going for this coming year, playing with some life long friends who I’ve grown up with!” Andy McKinney

“When I realised we had a chance to bring Andy home to where he played as a junior, myself and Shaun wasted no time in making it happen to support both Andy and the club. With a young family and a new business venture we always believed we could be the right fit to give Andy the home/life balance, whilst still supporting him playing at a competitive level.

He brings a unique skill set to the team, he will score goals, feature as a leader within the group, bring real energy to our special teams and he brings a whole new meaning of competition to the lineup. He will be a huge asset to this group and help the club rebuild its status as a competitive team in the Moralee division.” Head Coach Mike Clancy
