GB WOMEN CHASING GOLD

This weekend, the GB Women’s team, flew out to South Korea to start their quest for Gold at the World Championships in Suwon, taking some familiar Dragons faces with them. Deeside Dragons Head Coach Mike Clancy will be coaching in Korea, and Dragons equipment manager Charles Humphreys will also be wearing GB Blue for the next two weeks.

Last year, in Spain, the GB Women won the gold medal by finishing 1st in their Division (IIA) and were promoted to Division IB, and are looking to make their mark on this new, tougher Division. Their roster is a mix of experienced players like Rachel Cartwright, Steph Towns and Nicole Jackson, along with recent graduates from the U18s team like Ellin Rees, Ellie Patrick and Ruby Newlands, and Head Coach Mike Clancy is excited by the challenge.

GB will face Italy, Kazakhstan, Poland, Slovenia and hosts Korea in their new Division. The tournament begins on April 17th, but GB have some exhibition games before then, playing on April 14 vs Poland and April 15 vs Kazakhstan.

Their tournament will officially open against Kazakhstan on April 17, before playing Italy on April 18, Poland on April 20, Korea on April 22 and Slovenia on April 23.

Here at the Dragons, we’re proud to support the GB Women’s team, and welcomed them to our rink for a short weekend training camp last month to finish preparing them for the upcoming tournament. Good luck, ladies! Bring home a medal!
